Our Inspiration for this Collection
Artists have long looked to the natural world for inspiration, and that's certainly the case at Fy-shan Glass Studio. Our Animal Kingdom line draws its inspiration from the natural beauty and awe of the animal kingdom. Each sculpture has its own unique personality and narrative to tell, from the majestic grandeur of the Lion to the lively vitality of Rio the parrot and the playful agility of the frog. Pate de Verre Technique
Pate-de-Verre is a glass casting process that dates back to the Middle Ages. Casting kilns use high temperatures to melt and fuse glass into molds formed from plaster copies of hand-sculpted clay originals. The glass object can only be retrieved by fracturing the plaster mold, hence a fresh cast is needed for each edition. To avoid bubbles, cloudiness, and shattering as the glass cools, this technique calls for expert control. The end product is a one-of-a-kind work of art in glass.
